Frequently Asked Questions - Considering Abortion

Having a baby will increase your budget, regardless of how thrifty you are.  However, help is available.  The government's Women, Infants, and Children program (WIC), helps women and their children obtain healthy food at no cost.  Please contact us for a list of resources for which you may be eligible.

It's not too late to get coverage for your prenatal care and delivery.  Most college students are covered for pregnancy under their university health plans.  If you are unemployed, a high-school student, or otherwise have little income, you will most likely qualify for Medicaid.  If pregnant, you will be provided with the 'Proof of Pregnancy' report required by Medicaid.  Please call our center for other possible resources.

Although the abortion option may sound like a quick fix, the effects can last a lifetime.  Abortion can leave you emotionally impacted for years.
Common post-abortion symptoms include depression, nightmares, guilt, regret, avoidance of babies, and even self-destructive behaviors. The difficulties usually get worse over time and not better. Another possible unforeseen consequence of abortion are broken relationships, including divorce.
Some women are physically damaged from the abortion, or left permanently infertile.  Some die on the abortion table or from complications.

Although it will be more difficult to continue with your studies while you are caring for an infant, many mothers complete their education and go on to have fulfilling and exciting careers.  Some found that having a child increased their motivation to succeed.  However, if your circumstances make it impossible for you to parent, you have the alternative parenting plan of adoption.
Today, mothers are able to choose who the adoptive family will be and decide how involved they would like to be in the baby's life after adoption.  There are many parents who yearn for a child but cannot have one of their own.  By making this alternative parenting plan for your child, you will also richly bless their lives. Please contact us so we can give you more information regarding this option.

Although the unborn child does not currently have legal rights under the law, consider the following realities:
By the sixth week of pregnancy, the heart is beating.
By the eighth week, brain waves can be measured.
By twelve weeks, the child can and does cry, though silently.
By sixteen weeks, the baby's movements can be felt by the mother.
Many women bond with their unborn children long before they are born, and feel a great sense of loss after an abortion. More about the development of the unborn child.

Whether this will be your first child or another, there is usually never an ideal time to have a baby.  Since no one knows, better than you, how a child will impact your life at this moment, no one here will judge you.  We only ask for the opportunity to offer you some alternatives to consider.

Being fearful of what others will think of you and your unplanned pregnancy is an emotion shared by many in the same situation.Seeking counseling and guidance to help you make the best decision for yourself  and your unborn baby, will help you to overcome some of those fears.

Among the resources available to you here at LifeTalk, is counseling for both, the father and the mother of the baby.  Either counseling to the father by male volunteers and the mothers by female volunteers, or, if you prefer, you can be counseled as a couple.
As the mother and the father of this baby, you are already involved in a third relationship - that is with your unborn child.  As it is your desire to fight for your relationship with your boyfriend, your unborn child deserves that same fight from you, it's mother.

In the state of Texas, no one can force you to have an abortion. If they do they can be found guilty of committing fetal homicide and a host of other crimes. We can provide you with a document you can complete and fax to the abortion center. This document will warn them that you are being forced into having the abortion and if they proceed they will be held liable.
